Second International Congress on the “Use of Growth Factors and Cellular Therapy in Dermatology”
Internationally recognized as an innovator in hair transplant surgery, Joseph F. Greco, PhD, PA/C, is a widely published lecturer, teacher and the Director of Clinical Research of OroGen BioSciences; a Biotechnical company specializing in growth factor stem cell technology.
Dr. Greco pioneered the use of growth factor technology and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) “in all phases of a hair transplant procedure” and was the first to introduce PRP in “non-surgical treatments of hair loss diseases like Androgenic Alopecia (male and female patterned hair loss) and Alopecia Areata”.
“Until we reach the “Holy Grail” of growing hair in bald scalp without surgery (hair multiplication), the natural bridge between traditional Follicular Unit Transplantation and Follicular Unit Extraction hair transplantation surgery is Bio-Enhanced hair transplantation.”
Bio Enhanced hair restoration surgery “uses your own cells to enhance the result of all phases of the procedure to heal faster, yield hair sooner, denser and also promote the growth of the non-transplanted hair”.
Recent published studies in the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery verify that the use of high levels of growth factors from PRP with hair cells “yield hair sooner” and “denser” when compared to controls when no growth factors are used.
Greco Medical Group has developed a proprietary way to utilize the regenerative cells from your donor tissue, rich in stem cells, to promote rapid healing of the donor site, an undetectable scar, increase the yield and density of transplanted hairs.
Additionally, these stem cells can be used in combination procedures for Bio-Facial skin rejuvenation and orthobiologic treatments like severe knee arthritis, and other joints and soft tissue issues. Know more about Stem Cell ASSISTED FUT™.
Bio FUE™, is an exclusive FUE procedure developed by Greco Medical Group that combines NeoGraft technology to enhance the healing time and yield of transplanted hairs.
Regenerative cells from your blood are infused into the FUE donor site for rapid healing and to promote the growth of transected hairs. All follicular units are then bathed in your growth factor (protein) rich culture medium to reduce cell death and help increase the yield of transplanted follicular units. Finally, you’re enriched cells are injected into the transplanted area to promote faster healing, rapid hair growth of the transplanted hairs and also to improve the quality and aesthetic density of your existing non-transplanted hair. Know more about Bio-FUE™.
Dr. Greco received and completed three research grants sponsored by the International Society of Hair Restoration, which led to important concepts improving “yield of hair” in a hair replacement surgery, like the Crush Study and H-Factor.
Hair transplantation surgery will grow permanent hair, but what is neglected is how can we safely improve the non-transplanted hair and keep it from thinning? Many patients have side effects to FDA approved medicines or do not want to take drugs to thicken hair so Greco Medical Group researcher, Joseph Greco, PhD, pioneered the use of Platelet Rich Plasma, PRP, as a non-surgical treatment for hair loss disease.
In 2008, Dr. Greco received a research grant from the International Society of Hair Restoration to study the “Effects of Autologous PRP and Various Growth Factors in Non Transplanted Hair”. Then in 2009, Dr. Greco and Robert Brandt received a second research grant by the ISHRS to study “The Effects of Autologous Growth Factors (PRP) in Alopecia Areata”.
By taking a small amount of your blood, then concentrating and separating the blood components, we produce Platelet Rich Plasma, PRP. The growth factors (regenerative proteins from platelets) work in numerous ways to improve and regenerate hair by providing nutrition and promoting new blood supply to the follicle; increasing hair shaft size. Additionally, studies show the growth factors in PRP reduce inflammation in the scalp and turn on follicular stem cells.
Cytokine Rich Plasma, CRP, is simply a more purified form of PRP. This more purified form of PRP contains higher levels of growth factors, than PRP without red blood cells, white blood cells or platelets and is the next generation of PRP. CRP is a patent pending technology, which is proprietary and exclusive at Greco Medical Group.
PRP and CRP can also be combined to improve the immediate growth ability (nourishing proteins) from CRP and then a delayed action release over time of from PRP. This is a proprietary process of Greco Medical Group. Know more about Non-Surgical PRP/CRP Hair Therapy.
In 2013 Dr. Greco contributed two textbook chapters in the use of biologics in hair regeneration. In 2014, he will be teaching hair transplantation techniques to Dermatology Residents at UCLA, David Geffen School of Medicine and will be a faculty member at Hair and Scalp Diploma course, University of Paris, France. Dr. Greco is also a faculty member of George Washington University teaching a postgraduate course in Integrative and Regenerative Medicine.
