Discoid lupus erythematosus is a skin disease that can cause scaring hair loss. It most often affects young adult women (aged 20 to 50), but children, the elderly, and males may be affected. Autoimmune diseases like Discoid Lupus are scaring alopecia that causes intense systemic inflammation, which can destroy the hair follicles.
Discoid Lupus Patient Case Study: incredible results 14 years after PRP/CRP treatments
Fig1
This patient above Fig 1 suffered from Discoid Lupus and experienced over 15 areas hair loss throughout the top of her scalp. Additionally, she was developing a linear scar in her forehead, which also effect patients with this skin disease. The patient was treated with traditional therapy for 2 years with steroid injections, without results, prior to referral to our clinic. Her skin was becoming thinner, and hair was not growing back.
The patient Fig 2 below was treated in 8/12/2010 with two sessions of PRP/Protein Matrix and this was the result at 12 months after two sessions. In addition to hair growing in the previous areas of hair loss, the patient’s hair character improved and the linear line that was developing on her forehead resolved after injections there. This was the first time PRP has been used to successfully treat this scaring alopecia.
Fig 2
The patient has continued her non-surgical treatments biannually for 14 years with CRP/protein matrix and here are her results today. Absolutely no side effects were ever reported and no other traditional therapies were used including cortisone or JAKs inhibitors.
Fig 3
The patient has been able to changer her hair style and elected a darker hair color, which is a higher contrast and more difficult to hide lighter color scalp.
This was the first patient treated with autologous cellular therapy and 14 years later shows the safety and effectiveness of long term use of CRP and biologic regenerative therapies for hair restoration.
