Numerous independent studies demonstrate promising positive effects of growth factors on transplanted hairs, such as, (1) decreased erythema (Redness), (2) crusting and (3) patient discomfort (Perez-Meza, 2006), (4) accelerated hair growth, (5) increased follicular unit size, and (6) accelerated revascularization of follicles utilizing VGF (Rinaldi, 2007)
When bathed in activated PRP, growth factors attach to the stem cells in the bulge area of the dissected follicular unit, thus increasing the yield of newly transplanted follicles 15.1 percent (Uebel, 2004).
In Fig 1, above, the follicular units are dissected and bathed in activated PRP gel (PRP can be activated with human thrombin, human recombinant thrombin, calcium chloride/ thrombin or fibrinogen and becomes a gel like substance) prior to implantation.
There is an increasing amount of consistently positive evidence among multiple investigators suggesting that PRP provides significant advantages for routine use in modern hair transplant surgery. In the future, the addition of PRP may be considered the new “gold standard” in hair transplant care”. (Reese, 2008)

The best way to evaluate a patient is to arrange a personal, in-depth consultation. However, this is impossible for many patients who fly in from other parts of the country or world. For this reason we have developed the remote consultation package, which is an acceptable alternative to the in-person personal consult.
Once your photos and questionnaire are reviewed, we will telephone you to discuss your questions or concerns regarding the procedure. You will also be given a suggested treatment plan and the costs involved. Click here for more complete information on our free on-line hair restoration consultation process.
