Revive Your Confidence With Red Light Therapy

Your hair plays a big role in your self-confidence and how you are perceived by others. When it starts to thin or fall out due to alopecia, it can be devastating. Fortunately, photobiomodulation (sometimes also known as red light therapy or low-level laser light) can help alleviate this, not only mitigating hair loss but actively stimulating hair regrowth.

Reversing Hair Loss with Photobiomodulation

Photobiomodulation is a painless, non-surgical therapy that uses light energy to stimulate the production of ATP molecules, giving dormant cells the cellular energy and boost required for hair growth. An added bonus of photobiomodulation therapy is that it can help to increase cellular function, activate growth factors and regenerative cells, enhance blood supply, and minimize inflammation, which could potentially reverse hair loss without the need for surgery. Whether you desire an overall improvement in the health of your hair or are in search of new cell growth, red light therapy provides the perfect solution.

The Remarkable Benefits of Red Light Therapy for Hair Restoration

Photobiomodulation has shown incredible results in stimulating hair growth and preventing hair loss, and we’re excited to offer our patients the numerous benefits that come along with it.

Enhancing Hair Growth

Clinical studies have shown that low-level light therapy promotes hair growth in individuals with androgenetic alopecia and telogen effluvium. This is because the therapy increases blood and nutrient flow to hair follicles. This helps enhance cellular metabolism, reduce hair follicle miniaturization, and prolong the anagen phase, which is the growth phase of hair.

Preventing Hair Loss

Photobiomodulation may be effective in preventing hair loss by blocking the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone responsible for hair follicle miniaturization. By blocking this conversion, photobiomodulation may reduce DHT levels above the scalp, resulting in thicker, fuller hair.

Reducing Inflammation

Photobiomodulation is capable of decreasing inflammation while providing necessary nutrients and oxygen through increased blood flow to the cells that form hair follicles. By reducing inflammation and augmenting follicle health, this exciting treatment modality can promote hair regrowth and health.

Enhancing Wound Healing

Red light therapy enhances wound healing in part from the beneficial effects on blood flow and cellular metabolism, mobilization of growth factors and regenerative cells, and reduction of inflammation. This makes red light therapy an essential part of our post-operative care after surgical hair restoration.

Stem Cell Mobilization

Studies have suggested that red light therapy with PRP therapy can activate circulating stem cells in our bloodstream. Photoactivation of these regenerative cells before our signature BioScalp procedure with CRP/Matrix treatment may serve to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment and is an essential part of our processing protocol.

A Drug-Free Treatment

Photobiomodulation is a safe and totally non-invasive approach to hair restoration. An added benefit is that it is often used in conjunction with other non-surgical or surgical treatments to achieve optimal results. Red light therapy may be safely used at home or in the office, combined with many of our available treatments.

The Promise of Photobiomodulation Research Insights and Hair Growth Potential

Much research has been devoted to exploring the possibilities of low-level light therapy. Photobiomodulation has been examined in various clinical trials, and the results have been hopeful. Subsequently, research studies have been carried out to investigate whether this form of therapy can activate hair follicle stem cells and subsequently foster hair growth. Results from these investigations suggest that the use of photobiomodulation could stimulate hair to enter the growth phase (or anagen phase), remain in the growth phase for prolonged periods of time, and prevent premature entrance into the resting phase, all contributing to enhanced growth and improvement in hair density.

In 2014, a study was conducted which discovered that red light therapy could increase hair thickness and density through the stimulation of hair follicle stem cells. A similar study from 2013 further showed that the application of low-level laser therapy resulted in an improvement in hair thickness and the number of hair follicles for people with androgenetic alopecia.

Consequently, the conclusion was that low-level laser therapy may be an effective method of treating androgenetic alopecia.

How Is Photobiomodulation Used for Hair Loss?

Photobiomodulation is a straightforward, non-invasive therapy that is performed in a doctor's office or even from the comfort of your own home. Red light may be administered to the scalp comfortably via a professional grade, in-office photobiomodulation unit, a form-fitting laser cap, or even a small handheld device. Treatment varies from a few minutes a day to between 20 and 30 minutes a few times per week, and multiple sessions are required for the best outcomes.

Photobiomodulation is not a quick fix for hair loss; consistent application is required for the desired effects to take hold. This form of treatment can be combined with other medical, non-surgical, and surgical treatment options for increased benefits.

Taking everything into account, photobiomodulation may promote a desirable response to hair loss. As it is non-invasive, anti-inflammatory, and capable of promoting hair growth, it is a practical alternative or add-on therapy to other treatment methods. Low-level light therapy has been explored for a long time, exhibiting encouraging results. Yet, like with any other medical approach, consulting a competent medical professional is essential before starting any type of hair growth treatment.
